Frequently Asked questions

Publication

Why place an online obituary on traueranzeigeonline.de?

In this day and age, fewer and fewer people have a newspaper subscription. With an online obituary, you can reach mourners quickly, easily and inexpensively. With our simple obituary designer, you can easily create a stylish obituary within minutes. In addition, you usually save hundreds, often thousands of euros compared to a classic newspaper ad.

Where will the obituary be published?

The obituary will be published in the obituary directory of traueranzeigeonline.de – if you wish (see the “Private” option). The obituary can also be downloaded as a PDF file.

What does the “Private” option mean?

The “Private” option lets you keep the obituary out of the obituary directory. Instead, you will receive a private link. This link can only be viewed by people you share it with – suitable for a smaller, close circle.

Our guide “Fraud in the event of bereavement” explains which personal details are better left out of a public obituary and how to prevent misuse.

Can I schedule the publication for a later date?

Yes. Finish the obituary now and choose the “Private” option for the time being. You will immediately receive a working private link, but the obituary will not yet appear in our public directory.

Then send us the desired publication date and the link to the obituary by e-mail. We will make the obituary public on the desired date. It can take 24–48 hours until it also appears on Google and other search engines.

Can the obituary be found on Google?

If the obituary is not published with the “Private” option, it can usually be found on Google and other search engines within a few hours. Sometimes it takes a little longer (24–48 hours).

Cost & payment

How much does an obituary cost?

An online obituary costs a one-time fee of €35 incl. VAT.

What does a note of thanks or a memorial cost?

An online note of thanks or memorial also costs a one-time fee of €35 incl. VAT.

How can I pay?

We accept the following payment methods: PayPal, Klarna, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Why is the online obituary not free of charge?

With the amount you pay for the obituary, we ensure the operation, further development and maintenance of our platform. We do not wish to place any advertisements at this time in order to keep the environment dignified and respectful. The construction of our obituary designer required a lot of development time. Can't afford the fee? Perhaps our free German Word templates or the free English obituary templates on obituary.design can help you out.

What does an obituary in the newspaper cost?

Usually between €60 and €2,500 – depending on size, design and reach. Also read our article “How Much Does an Obituary Cost in Germany?”.

Sharing & condolence book

How do relatives and friends learn of the death?

Many of our customers send the image of the obituary via WhatsApp, Facebook or by e-mail. The direct link to the obituary can also be forwarded via the sharing function.

How does the online condolence book work?

If you activate the online condolence book, it will be displayed directly below the obituary. It gives relatives and friends the opportunity to express their sympathy. Condolence book entries are generally public. You will receive an e-mail notification as soon as someone writes an entry. This e-mail also gives you the option to remove an entry directly.

Changes & duration

I have placed an obituary and would like to make a change.

Simply send us the desired changes by e-mail – we will be happy to do this quickly and free of charge for you.

How long does an obituary stay online?

An obituary remains online for three years after publication. Before this period expires, you have the option to extend the duration.

What happens when the term expires?

We will notify you by e-mail in good time before the term of your obituary ends. You can easily extend the obituary for another three years. If you decide not to extend, you don't need to do anything. The obituary will then be removed from the platform after the term expires.

Newspaper & PDF

I already have a finished obituary and want to publish it on the platform exactly as it is.

That is possible. Send us the obituary (e.g. as a PDF) by e-mail.

What size is the obituary in the PDF?

The width of the obituary in the PDF created by the system is 150 mm. The height depends on the content of your obituary. For newspapers, it is usually no problem to scale this PDF to the correct size. Please contact us if this is not the case. We are also happy to send you the background image separately if needed.
